Husky Wait Time is an app that displays potential wait/line length times for all food outlets around the University of Connecticut. The app showcases to students the current wait time and how many current orders each food outlet currently has. It also demonstrates line length in dining halls/the Student Union, as well as how many people have swiped into a dining hall in the past hour. The immense student population makes finding a place to eat on campus, in a reasonable amount of time, very difficult for the average student. Having access to this kind of information easily in the palm of your hand could benefit students as well as people apart of the university community at large very greatly. I chose to create an app for this project because I felt that it was the most efficient way to grant this information to students. Apps have become so easily accessible today as we as a society and a generation are constantly at the disposal of our phones.
I haven’t always had as strong an interest in web and UI design as I do today. I started off college wanting to go into film production. However, I quickly realized I really only liked watching movies, not editing them. I went into the Web and Interactive Media concentration at UConn with an open mind and ended up really happy with this choice. One of my first real web projects in this program was a website I made for my mom's interior design business. From this, I learned that I really like creating and producing things for other people. With Husky Wait Time, I hope to produce something that provides a prototype for a much-needed service. The goal is to create an application that is easy to use for everyone, and actually beneficial to the entire UConn community as a whole.

Artist Bio

Brenna Thorpe is a senior at the University of Connecticut pursuing a BFA in the Digital Media and Design program, with a concentration in Web and Interactive Media Design. She grew up on the shoreline of Connecticut, which inspired in her a love for natural scenery and the outdoors. From this, she is drawn to minimalist techniques and she focuses heavily on layouts with realistic design styles. Her key influences and inspirations stem from her parents' love of art and design. Brenna's drive to help others through her art has its roots in the example set by her mother and father.
Her work typically focuses heavily on website and User Interface design using HTML, Javascript, and CSS, along with the usage of Adobe products such as InDesign and Xd. She is also interested in and has some experience with animation and video production/ editing as well. She is currently working for UConn’s Daily Campus Newspaper as a sports designer, dealing with layouts and overall design placement. She hopes to continue working in the design field furthering her knowledge of interface design and web creation in the near future.
