I Choose You is a video installation about the struggles of maintaining your identity within a relationship. In this piece, we see Amara grow and heal after her first relationship ends and as she unexpectedly meets someone new. We observe how she was used to having an unstable relationship and how her current partner helps her understand her bad habits, trauma responses, and how much of a relationship chameleon she is.
The piece is projected inside of a doll house, meant to represent how although something can look normal on the outside, we never really know what is going on inside. The viewer experiences the piece without sound, letting them view the interactions between people from a distance. It mimics how we see Amara struggle with her thoughts and allows the viewer to project and imagine what her thoughts could be.

Artist Bio

Yazmine Uvidia is a Digital Media and Design student at the University of Connecticut-Stamford. She is passionate about video/film production and learning about business strategies. Yazmine Uvidia comes from an Ecuadorian background. As she grew up, she became amazed by her culture and participated in many of the annual Ecuadorian festivals and dance groups on Christmas day. She realized there were not many Ecuadorian artists in the entertainment industry. Uvidia became inspired by the people she met and wanted to make documentaries about them but wanted to gain some experience first by working as a producer on two documentaries. Since then, she has been making important stories known through her films. With her gained experience working on award-winning documentaries and other film projects, she secured an internship at Persistent Productions during the summer of 2022. She worked on commercials that won awards at the BEA Festival of Media Arts 2023. In her free time, she continues to work on her skills by making small commercials in her room for fun.
