Link to Rooted Obsession

Rooted Obsession is a short narrative horror story that explores a toxic mother/daughter relationship. Stevie is a freshman in college, learning how to be independent. However she struggles to focus on the present when her unstable mother is constantly lurking in the background. When Stevie decides to stay on campus for the holiday break, the news is unbearable for her sick mother. Now alone in her dormitory, she finds herself unable to escape her mother’s suffocating presence.
I wanted to create a short horror film because I am interested in testing my creative abilities and learning more about this genre of film. I value family, often going to my own for support, and I think it's easy to forget that not everyone has that option. I’d like to remind my peers to be sensitive and empathetic towards others because you never know what someone might be experiencing, especially during the holiday season. I can relate to my main character’s feelings of guilt and anxiety associated with growing up and trying to do what's best for yourself. I hope to explore these feelings of anxiety and shed a light on the issue of complicated family relationships that might impact one's mental health and well being.
