Link to Take a Walk

Take a Walk is a mobile-friendly website which allows patrons to easily identify the tree species of the UConn Tree Walk as outlined by the UConn Arboretum. Rather than having to directly navigate the UConn Arboretum Database, which has reference tags for over 4,500 trees, this project focuses on connecting individuals with 39 notable trees of campus. This project expands on the Arboretum's database by adding identifiable photos for each tree and simplifying the experience to be manageable on mobile phones. Using Mapbox technology to create a tile map-based interface, viewers can follow the modified tree walk to explore trees of campus through informational narratives and photographs. To show more states of each tree's annual leaf cycle, photos of the trees were taken over the course of four months, starting from late-summer 2020 to early-spring 2021. With its mobile-friendly design, this site is made to create a positive experience for those visiting the trees and to those off-campus that may want to learn about the trees virtually. This project was created as part of the University of Connecticut—Digital Media & Design—Web Design BFA program.
