Link to House Pets

House Pets is a short mockumentary that explores the troublesome relationship between my family’s 10-year-old cat and their new 1-year-old puppy. The film, narrated by both animals, talk about their family and reflect on their own friendship. My pets have been a support system and source of happiness for my family and I. For most of my life, I have loved working with cameras to create comedy skits or dramatic short films for my family and friends. This past year, I worked on an environmental conservation documentary that gave me a new perspective on creative film production. House Pets allows me to combine my past short film experience with all I gained from my documentary project. Not only does this project speak to the work I have done in the past, it also serves as a love letter to my family and my home. Almost everyone can relate to having a strong bond with their childhood pets. I want to further that by allowing them to “tell the story” from their perspective. The medium of this film allows my pets to speak to the audience in the way that they’ve spoken to me throughout my life.

Artist Bio

Sarah Oxner is currently a senior at the University of Connecticut, pursuing a BFA in Digital Media and Design with a concentration in film and video production. Originally from South Korea, she has always had a love for working with cameras and creating short videos for her family. After moving to Connecticut at the start of middle school, she fell in love with fantasy movies and decided to pursue a career in the film industry. Within the past year she has worked on multiple collaborative projects, including independent short films as well as a documentary about youth conservation activism in the Northeast.
Now in her senior year, she works on campus as the film director for UCTV, and also with the communications department as a video production assistant. Her biggest passions are narrative storytelling and working collaboratively with fellow artists to write, produce, and create films. After graduation, she hopes to continue this and work with others to bring their ideas to life as well.
