ReadR is a web extension prototype which provides an improved user experience for individuals who read digital content online. Due to the recent pandemic, many things switched to being remote and so people are spending even more time online than ever before. This project aims to resolve some of the main issues users face when reading content online.

Three of the main features that are included in this prototype are reading modes, font type and sizing, and automated narration. With the reading mode feature, users will be able to use one of the preset color schemes for reading, such as Dark Mode, Light Mode, and Sepia. There is also an option to create a customized reading mode to accommodate personal preferences. The font feature grants users the opportunity to select from popular reading fonts with the added ability to increase or decrease the font size. The automated reading feature allows users the option to sit back and relax while the AI reads for them. All these features and more are provided to reduce eye strain, online reading fatigue, distractions, and some other minor issues users face when reading online content.

Artist Bio

Colleen Green is a senior at the University of Connecticut with a BFA in Digital Media & Design, concentrating on Web/Interactive Media Design. From a very young age, Green has enjoyed anything art related such as drawing, painting and making crafts. Her teachers and mentors saw her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in the arts. While attending a web design class in high school, Colleen knew that was what she wanted to do for a career. She enjoyed creating websites so much that she started building her own personal websites. It was so satisfying to know that she could create something cool from writing a few lines of HTML. Throughout her time in the DMD major, she has experienced nothing but true passion and enthusiasm for what she does. Because of this experience, she is an advocate for the saying, Choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life. During her major, she has worked on creating prototypes/wireframes, responsive websites and other web related projects. Colleen is eager to enter into the work-field so that she may apply her knowledge and skills to create better user experiences.
