Link to Animating Poetry: The Stolen Child

Animating Poetry: The Stolen Child relies on a combination of motion graphics and hand drawn animation to bring to life the words of famous Irish poet, William Butler Yeats. The project explores themes of lost innocence and a departure from youth through the use of a stark black and white color palette, reminiscent of traditional Irish illustrations, as well as limited splashes of color, which represent the spirits or souls of each living creature featured within the scope of the animation. The project aims to generate an appreciation for and interest in Irish culture, folklore, and motifs, as well as call attention to what is quite possibly Yeats's most prolific work.

Artist Bio

Natalie Curtis is a UConn senior with a vested interest in all things folklore, art history, illustration, and culture. She seeks to incorporate both her love of classic literature and her adoration for Irish heritage into her work and, going forward, hopes to continue to do so. Alongside her major in Digital Media & Design, she is working toward the completion of her minor in Art History and looks forward to pursuing a career that will allow her to further explore both passions. Her ultimate goal is to work for a museum or other cultural institution, but she is open to whatever path life may have for her.
