Artist Bio

Kylee Nimons began her artist journey at the age of fourteen when she began to try and replicate the drawing styles of different cartoons she watched. This led to a newfound love for art and illustration. Drawing her favorite characters from different titles helped her develop her own personal art style, which she continued to further refine throughout high school and into college. Now a senior at the University of Connecticut, Kylee is pursuing a BFA in Digital Media and Design, with a concentration in 2D Animation and Motion Design and a minor in Studio Art. She has chosen to highlight her long-standing love for illustration in her senior BFA project. Kylee hopes to achieve a career in the illustration and motion design field, while also pursuing video editing. She hopes to continue to bring her stories to life throughout her career and make works that inspire her.

Artist Statement

Roloc is a 2D illustrative and animated storytelling project centered around a vibrant kingdom in a very colorful world. Roloc begins to disappear, and it is up to our two main characters, Altan and Marlias, to venture to the other side of the mighty Prismatic Forest to get them back for Princess Iridescence. Along the way, they discover that everything about the Kingdom may not be what it seems, leading to trials of uncertainty that they must overcome to save the Kingdom. With a main focal point in illustration, I have digitally illustrated every image for this project, using my skills in 2D Motion to bring it together in a “live storybook” fashion. I am a huge lover of graphic novels and creative writing, and I felt that this project would be a perfect outlet to not only combine those interests but also incorporate my love for illustration and animation work. I strived to create a project that I would have loved to have seen as I got older and began to develop my art style. Roloc is a labor of love to little fourteen-year-old Kylee and her sketchbook.
