Artist Statement
“Strings Attached” is a project that brings together my personal ties to puppetry, with the University of Connecticut Puppetry community. Originally inspired by my grandfather, Richard Smith, who has been a puppeteer nearly his entire life, I delve into the lives and culture of UConn’s puppet curriculum, in hopes to come out understanding the art form better. I created this project with hopes that my grandfather could see what modern day puppetry could look like, as well as be able to relate to him about what I learned from it all.
