Artist Bio

Valeria Yanqui is a senior Motion Design and Animation student attending the University of Connecticut, Stamford. She loved watching animated shows and films since she was young yet never considered it could be her career choice until she entered university. An accident that had occurred during high school had left her bedridden for months. This allowed her to explore more into the world of art. Her passion for 2d animation and motion graphics only deepened the more she learned during her time at UConn.

Artist Statement

“Breathe” is a 2D animated short film that explores what it takes to accept yourself. We follow a young persons journey through the unknown as they try to find a way to escape. As they walk around, they witness unimaginable things, yet why are they unphased? And why is this sinking feeling so familiar. In 2019 I had a vivid dream, it was so wild that to this day I will never forget it. So, I decided to make a 2-3-minute-long animation inspired by it. The animation, still far from being anywhere like the dream, now holds a solid and personal meaning to me. I hope that the viewers of “Breathe” are comforted and that anyone who has had similar feelings knows that they are not alone.
