Artist Statement

Shadows” is a 3D animation following a magic academy student and city protector, named Elle, on her first solo combat mission. Set in a modern fantasy world where monsters have been terrorizing the public since eons ago, our protagonist is one of the few awakened with magic and capable of fighting them. Enrolled in the original organization in history against monsters, which she grew up admiring and having faith in, Elle trained diligently to serve the academy and public. When finally given a mission to complete on her own, proof of her hard work, she was overjoyed and confident. With the teachings and experiences from the academy, there was nothing to worry about. That is until she had to fight a monster that seeds doubt about the academy and fear into her. Inspired by animated shorts from video game studios, my vision for this project is to show a snippet of who my character is and her world without fully laying it out in the video. The objects in the scenes should hint or reveal information to the audience, like easter eggs, while a story unfolds through our protagonist. The goal is storytelling through details and symbolism.
