Artist bio

Alex Knight is a 3D animator, former NH State Park worker, and student of the natural world. Inspired by documentary and informational works, he is pursuing a BFA degree in 3D Animation, with minors in Industrial Design and Ecology that inform his perspective on the storytelling process. The principles of industrial design enhance his understanding of form, function, and aesthetics, while his studies in ecology offer insights into the intricate relationships within natural systems. This interdisciplinary approach enables him to create animations that are not only visually compelling but also physically accurate. His previous documentary animations include algal growth, runoff, and interplanetary settlement research.

Artist Statement

The Dovera Report is a work of Docu-Fiction exploring the potentially overwhelming power of water. In the fictionalized city of Dovera, a pattern of neglect led to the deadliest water storage disaster since 1928. The report describes the series of critical failures that led to the demise of several employees, and the complete destruction of an industrial facility. Inspired by elements of dozens of documentaries, including tunnel floodings in Chicago, hurricane damage in New York City, and prehistoric flooding in Washington state, the documentary highlights the most compelling elements of water erosion, physics, and public works in a novel, contemporary scenario.
