Artist Bio

Maxwell Tucker is a Digital Media and Design major at the University of Connecticut, originally from Marion, Massachusetts. He’s been obsessed with movies for as long as he can remember and has always wanted to write for the big screen. Max loves quick-witted humor and crime films, which is why he wrote and directed, Getting Away With It, a dark comedy about two killers who can’t get their act together. Through Max’s coursework, he’s developed both narrative and documentary projects and has worked on several independent film sets in roles ranging from production assistant to director. Even though Max’s recent works have been behind the camera, he has also been a theater actor all his life. After graduation, Max plans to take everything he’s learned in school and move to New York and direct his self-written screenplays.

Artist Statement

Getting Away With It is a dark comedy about two killers who can’t get out of their own way. It’s a story about ego, control, and how far people will go to convince themselves they’re doing the right thing, even when they’re obviously not. Logan hides behind a fake sense of divine purpose, while Sam basks in the ensuing chaos. They think they’re partners in crime, but really, they’re just dragging each other down. What starts as a simple murder quickly turns into a full-blown nightmare, and neither of them is smart enough to realize they’re the punchline. The film’s tone is dark, funny, and a little unhinged, like you’re watching two people make bad decisions in real time and somehow rooting for them anyway. The film is messy, loud, and a little ridiculous, but that’s what makes it fun. It’s not just about getting away with murder; it’s about how people try (and fail) to get away with themselves.
