Artist Statement
Art of the Cobra is a 2D animated short story about reconnecting from where you’re from. The story Follows Dakari, a young artist who’s is slowly losing the love to create. The constant rush of artist work has left him drained and passionless; he’s losing his passion for art; the world around is an emotionless grey, his feelings reach a boiling point when he fails his final project, the world around him turns into a suffocating grey enclosing him to his room. Until he receives a gift from his family, a strange paintbrush allowing him to paint anything. Testing out the paintbrush brings back a fire within him pushing him to go and study abroad in West Africa to reconnect with who he is, where he’s from, and what inspires him to make art. With this story I wanted to capture the true feelings of stagnation and dread that we all experience. that feeling of being in a rut, losing who you are, is a human feeling, and reconnecting with your friends and home can help lift you out of that darkness, inspire you to do things you haven’t done before and push yourself to create something different and new.
