Artist Bio
Keith Wei is a Digital Media & Design student at the University of Connecticut, Stamford, currently studying Web and Interactive Media. From an early age, technology has played a major role in his life—whether through exploring the internet, problem-solving with digital tools, or engaging in creative projects. His passion for interactive storytelling stems from his hobbies of video games and reading, finding the storytelling of narratives through gameplay as a form of art that draws readers and players into the medium itself. Keith is particularly drawn to the artistic and narrative depth found in RPGs and other story-driven games along with themes of science fiction. Through his works, Keith hopes to explore the intersection of technology, design, and interaction in ways that can include multiple audiences.
Artist Statement
Block By Block Learning is an interactive educational project that combines two key components: a Minecraft-based learning experience and an informational website designed for teachers and students. The website serves as the primary information hub, featuring short videos for their respective sections and a resource page that introduces both students and teachers unfamiliar with Minecraft. The overall setting of the project leans towards science fiction, set on three planets each with unique environments and challenges. The overall theme of the project involves human survival with the student as the leading figure, who is tasked with harnessing energy and designing infrastructure. Just like the original game, I intend for this project to not only promote creativity but also problem-solving and critical thinking skills in students participating in this open-world, interactive environment. I hope Block By Block Learning helps both students and teachers experience the potential of video games and the role they can play in digital media.
