Reminiscent is a three-minute 2D animation about self-reflection and finding oneself. My goal was to have my animation be more of a personal diary entry and let my thoughts be animated by characters I can relate to. In the story, the protagonist is at his lowest and receives a visit from his younger self. I wanted the younger version of the protagonist to be energetic and optimistic compared to the protagonist's. My goal was to have the viewer look at it and say, 'I can relate to this, sort of.' Reminiscent to me, would be a self-reflective animation that I would back on. An animation that can motivate me to always look at the positives in life.
Christopher Vivas-Nava is a student of Digital Media Design from the University of Connecticut, Stamford. Being a first-gen student, Chris has always appreciated his parents for supporting him in studying his greatest interest, animation. Starting from a young age, he loved to draw his favorite scenes from the shows he would watch as a kid. He would often use sticky notes and use them as flipbooks to make his animations as a kid in school. When starting high school, Chris would animate his favorite scenes from the mangas he would read, as well as his work. The flame that kindled within Chris did not stop as his passion for sharing his animation grew. Now, in the present, he uses animation to tackle ideas and issues that mean a lot to him. Chris chose to do a digital animation because he wanted to make the animation appear more “real” to not only him but to the viewer as well. Animation to Chris is a way to convey your inner feelings and be able to express them freely without any limits.
