Inspired by the story of David and Goliath, in which an undefeatable Giant is overcome by the most unlikely of heroes. As in every good story, the character of David and his journey resonates with us and echoes throughout history into our hearts today. Goliath, an expression of all that oppresses us, can only be defeated by the weakest, most creative, and faithful. Unsurprisingly, religions have used this story, and many others to illustrate the most mysterious characteristics of God, and our journey alongside Him. Paradoxically, the boy alone, armed with a toy as a weapon, was chosen to defeat this mighty foe. The Giant was nothing more than a mortal man who relied on his physical strength and weapons for protection. The boy viewed the battle through the eyes of God, realizing that he can defeat even the strongest of enemies through careful consideration and faith. We can fight more effectively when we put things into proper perspective, a perspective that only God may allow us to see. The boy and God partnered together, used his natural skills such as sling throwing, even if it seemed useless at first. God makes the impossible possible. We can trust God and that with him we can endure our evil giants.
I chose this project, because I deeply connect with David’s story. God has chosen me, a small girl, to do his amazing work of bringing victory, light, and love into the dark places of the world. I see myself in this story. I wanted to bring it to life, in the hopes that others too can connect to it. In my work, I take joy in sharing with others my faith and my story, through making the bible, religion, and this invisible relationship with God, visible on screen and to the modern heart.
